Say Hello to Lyocell
Here at Lowie, we're always looking for new ways to make our clothing more sustainable, and a lot of the time that starts with the fabrics we choose to use.
Choosing fabrics is a two-fold decision for us. What does it feel like? And, what is it made of? If a fabric feels great but doesn't have a sustainable angle or has a sustainable angle but doesn't feel great, we're not that interested. We want to know that everything we make feels good to wear and is causing as little harm to the planet as possible.
We've been looking to make pieces in lyocell for a while now and we're so excited that we're able to do it with our SS20 collection. While not all of our collection was made this year due to the coronavirus, we are so happy that our Lyocell pieces made the cut.
What is Lyocell?
We're glad you asked. The Lyocell we've included in our SS20 collection is made from eucalyptus pulp. The pulp is reduced into a solution that is then pushed through a spinneret to produce a fibre that is then woven into fabric. Lyocell is made a closed-loop production process that allows for 99% of the chemicals required to be continually reused and reabsorbed. And the chemicals that are used are naturally derived. Amazing right?
Lyocell has an incredible hand feel, and because it is made from natural materials it's super breathable and feels great to wear.
Lyocell is fully biodegradable meaning that once it can no longer be used, it can be composted and will eventually just be reabsorbed into the environment.
Lowie Lyocell
For this summer, we've chosen to include Lyocell pieces in a lovely warm apricot colour that feature ribbons from a sourcing trip to India. The fabrics have the perfect weight for summer and are super comfortable to wear. Wash on 30 degrees, hang dry, and bring in for free repairs if needed. You can shop the selection below.
