Mexican Restaurants in Brixton

This year’s Lowie SS16 collection took inspiration from the bold, beautiful and iconic imagery of Mexico. In keeping with that theme we thought it would only be right to sample the delectable food and drink on offer in Brixton’s very own Mexican restaurants.

First up, Jalisco Brixton. Run by a long term Brixton resident, Jalisco was an early entry to Brixton Village and remains one of its most popular eateries. Their street style food includes tacos and quesadillas but we think the star of the show are Jalisco’s burritos – choose from a range of beautifully cooked fillings and pick your own heat level! F*** Off Hot sounds truly terrifying. We wimped out and went for the merely ‘Spicy’! With a spacious outdoor seating area Jalisco is absolutely buzzing on a hot day – make sure you get there early to grab a good spot and cool off with one of their famous Tamarind or Hibiscus Margaritas.

Next we headed to Casa Morita in Market Row. A self described ‘no nonsense eatery’ with an enticing menu; we went for a sharing plate of Nacho’s with an extra veg topping cooked in a chilli and tomato sauce. Delicious! Casa Morita are famous for their Mexican inspired burgers, loaded with refried beans, avocado and queso fresco! The burgers are served with crunchy totopos, chipotle mayonnaise and jalapeno peppers. We’re not sure we’ll be able to go back to normal burgers after this!

And finally, Brixton’s newest Mexican hot spot –  (@wahaca) has come to town! Inspired by Thomasina Miers’ love of Mexican street food, the menu takes in everything from Tostadas, Tacos and Taquitos, but there are bigger bites on offer too! Drinks wise we strongly recommend the Mexcal and Tonic… derived from Mexican Agave it is the perfect summer tipple and a refreshing upgrade from the classic g&t! Wahaca are proud of their commitment to sustainability and always seek to source their food responsibly and locally where possible. They won Sustainable Restaurant Group of the Year Award in 2012 and 2013. Keep up the good work guys!
