About Us

Bronwyn was raised on the Australian wilderness island of Tasmania which sits at the confluence of the South Pacific and Indian Oceans. Much of her childhood was spent exploring and learning about the planet and the ways we can protect it. 

At 10 years old she was enrolled in sewing classes, and by age 12, Bronwyn was upcycling clothing, selling at local craft markets and to independent boutiques. After attending fashion college in Brisbane, Queensland, Bronwyn travelled Southeast Asia, exploring handicrafts traditions before finally settling in London. 

In Turkey, she fell in love with their traditional hand-knitting and brought socks and slippers back for friends. These socks, made from colourful scraps of yarn, became the first Lowie product—the Lowie Turkish Socks.  Set up on a shoestring in 2002, with stalls at London's Portobello and Spitalfields markets, Bronwyn began to design her own Lowie knit accessories collections. Over two decades later, Lowie has grown from a knitwear accessories brand to a vibrant womenswear label releasing thoughtfully made products throughout the year.

Since 2002 Lowie has stayed true to its roots and the ethos on which Bronwyn built it. In our designs we continue to share our love of colour and design, to be inspired by elements of craft and to incorporate traditional techniques such as hand embroidery, knitting, applique and screen printing. As a brand, Lowie tries to be as ethical as possible, putting the issues of sustainability, renewability and circularity at the forefront. We seek natural fabrics, manufacture with low energy consumption, and work with makers we trust and who pay their workers fairly. 

As we move forward, we hope to continue to provide women with sustainable and fashionable options, and to create high quality garments that are feminine, fun, and functional. We also hope to find ways to become more sustainable to create a better world for ourselves and for future generations.
