Fashion Focus at the Sustainable City Awards
Last night signalled the twelfth year of the Sustainable City Awards at Mansion House, and Lowie were very proud to be shortlisted and in attendance. The Awards are the UK’s most prominent recognition of ethical practice within both small and large businesses, all of which are working towards creating a more sustainable way of existing.
With the recent introduction of two new fashion categories in collaboration with the British Fashion Council, Sustainable Design and Sustainable Retailer, the ethical brands got glammed up and headed for the city. The beautiful Livia Firth attended and gave a keynote speech regarding the importance of fashion to sustainability, and definitely bought some glamour to the proceedings.
Lowie was shortlisted for both awards, and although we didn’t win we were beaten by some very worthy brands. Marks & Spencers won the Sustainable Retailer award, with long standing ethical champions People Tree as runners up. As for the Sustainable Design award, Auria’s recycled swimwear brand took the highly commended runner up position, while the award itself went to Pachacuti – a pioneering Fair Trade hat company. A big congratulations to Thrifty Couture, who went away with the Sustainable City Overall Winner Award, an incredible win for a lovely ethical brand.
Lowie did however receive a certificate for being shortlisted! Here are the girls showing off their gorgeous Lowie dresses.
Runa, Lowie shop manager, wore the black Cotton Peplum Dress, Marketing and PR Coordinator Rosie wore our 100% organic cotton Summer Tea Dress, and Editorial Assistant Liz wore our Silk Spot Prom Dress, all from our new collection.
