Ikat Collection
In October last year, Bronwyn and I (Natalie) ventured over to Jaipur, India to go and see our makers, discover new fabrics and generally get inspired.
In our Spring Summer collections we love to include a handwoven Ikat fabric which is an age old technique to produce a beautiful pattern in the fabric.
The yarns are dyed using a resist dying method which dyes only the parts you choose in order to create a design using the un-dyed part. The yarns are bound together with wrapping to create the design then they are dyed leaving the wrapped sections untouched by the dye.
The yarns are then woven together to create a pattern which usually has a 'blurry' or wobbly look as the weaver has great difficulty in matching up the pattern. This is all part of the Ikat's charm and hand crafted nature.
Our new Ikat collection features our signature summer strappy jumpsuit, tailored trousers, new longer length shirt dress and quilted boxy jacket. All made by Sumiran's small factory in Jaipur.
