Sunday March 8th is International Women’s Day — a moment to celebrate the achievements of women everywhere, to reflect on how far we’ve come, and to recognise how far there still is to go.

As a woman-owned business, I’m incredibly proud to employ a talented all-female team and to buy from many women-owned businesses who have, over time, become not just collaborators but friends. Supporting women isn’t a marketing angle for us — it’s woven into the fabric of how we operate every day.

Aside from our own brands Lowie and Miss PomPom, some of the female-led brands we stock include Kate Sheridan, Pink City Prints, LF Markey, Rachel Jackson, Seventy + Mochi, Bobo Choses, Lollys Laundry, Bonne Maison and Spritzy, among many others. Each of these brands represents creativity, resilience and vision — and behind each one is a woman (or women) navigating an industry that can still be uneven terrain.

Our Scottish knitwear manufacturer is female-led, as is Lina, the owner of our small tailoring partner in Shenzhen. These partnerships matter deeply to us. They remind us that women’s enterprise isn’t confined to one postcode or one privilege — it’s global, diverse and quietly powerful.

As women, we know that sometimes we need to work a little smarter to get the same result. The subtleties of how we’re treated — and even how we sometimes treat each other — can often hold us back. That’s just in the UK; globally, the barriers can be far greater. Access to funding, fair pay, leadership roles, safe working conditions — none of these can be taken for granted.

International Women’s Day isn’t just about celebration. It’s about intention. It’s about choosing where we spend our money, who we platform, who we mentor and how we show up for one another. It’s about collaboration over competition. Community over comparison. Go forth and support!
