BROCKWELL BARK! 🐶✨

Nat here 👋

Usually, you’ll find me in the office at Lowie designing collections, emailing customers, and juggling the many day-to-day bits that come with running an independent brand. But over the past few months, a big part of my life has also been volunteering for Brockwell Bark — the brilliant community dog show that Lowie proudly sponsors.

Alongside creating the graphics, posters and website for the event, I also looked after the @brockwell_bark Instagram account, sharing updates and introducing some of the four-legged stars of the show. Many an evening was spent discussing around a table in the Florence pub with sometimes more dogs attending than humans. Coming up with outlandish plans like trying to get Raye and Olivia Dean to perform… maybe next year?!

Held on the lawn outside Brockwell Hall in Brockwell Park, the event brought together local dogs, families and neighbours for an afternoon of organised chaos — all while raising money for The Blue Cross in Victoria.

The dog show categories were exactly the right mix of wholesome and ridiculous. There was Happiest Tail for the turbo-waggers, Village Veterans for the golden oldies, Pup Star for the youngest local pups, and Twinning & Winning for dogs who suspiciously resembled their owners. Fancy dress rounds included Canine Catwalk Capers and the gloriously over-the-top Best in Show-Biz finale, where dogs arrived dressed as celebrities, superheroes and everything in between. There was even Best Pawformance for talented pups with tricks, frisbee skills and the star and best in show the singing greyhound.

In true Brockwell Bark spirit, I also attempted a topical vegetable sculpture. Inspired by the hit TV show, my creation “Alan Carrot of The ’Taters” unfortunately didn’t win the people's vote. 🥕😂 The vegetable sculpture competition was a nod to the much-loved sculpture show of the old Lambeth Country Show traditions.

Lowie even designed Doggy inspired t-shirts to sell at the event.

And of course, no South London community event would be complete without excellent food and drink. Alongside all the dog judging and puppy madness, there were local food and drink stalls lining the lawn, plenty of snacks and treats, and beer flowing fast enough that some suppliers reportedly sold out before the end of the afternoon.

The show was a welcoming and joyful treat for the bank holiday. Just silly old fashioned fun. Whether you managed to get a place to compete in the sold out categories, came to show off your adorable pup, or came to coo over adorable pups, everyone had a smile on their face.

We had the best time and are already looking forward to doing it all again next year.

See you next year, doggies! 🐾
